High court to start hearing on anticipatory bail petitions of GJM leaders from November 19
The Calcutta High Court will hear daily the petitions for anticipatory bail of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leaders Bimal Gurung and Roshan Giri from November 19. In 2017, the GJM agitated to demand a separate state, during which more than 150 cases were registered against these leaders. A bench of Justice Jayamalya Bagchi and Justice M Mandal said that it would hear the matter daily from 19 November.
Public prosecutor Shashwat Mukherjee said that these anticipatory bail petitions have been filed against Gurung, Giri and some other leaders of the GJM in 158 cases. These cases were registered by the West Bengal Police following violent incidents in a demonstration demanding a separate state of GJM in Darjeeling Hills.
