‘Girl mother’ who looks after orphans in DPRK

Pyongyang, Oct 11: A girl, popular as “girl mother,” has been looking after orphans with maternal affection in the prime of her life.

Girl mother Jang Jong Hwa is herself an orphan. Jang Jong Hwa hides many stories behind her strong personality. Full of energy and passion, Hwa has lot of affection as she talks about her children.

She was born into troubled times, at the height of the great famine that raged through North Korea in the 1990s coupled with economic catastrophe . .

Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea met her in the Second National Conference of Exemplary Young People of Virtue in May 2015, and appreciated her for her work towards children and society and encouraged the other kids to continue to do good deeds for their country and fellow people.

Not only the “girl mother” but many other people are looking after orphans in Manpho, Jagang Province, which is located in the northern part of this country, has brought up many orphans in her house. She presents an example, who devote themselves for the country’s prosperity and unity.

North Korea, a country which is known for nuclear weapons, also brings some aspiring stories . Most services such as healthcare, education, housing and food production are subsidized or state-funded.

Some years ago a worker who was in the jaws of death for the third-degree burns over 67 percent of his body was fully recovered as more than 600 people, including the doctors, nurses and other employees of the South Hamgyong Provincial People’s Hospital, workers in his factory and his neighbours donated their skin for his recovery. A doctor in the Korea General Red Cross Hospital in Pyongyang, the capital city, treated a girl who had high-degree burns on her face with great care for eight years, thus restoring her face to its original state.

It has become a social trait to help others with an ennobling sense of human feeling. This trait is based on the people-centred socialist society guided by Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism, an ideology that regards them as the most precious beings in the world.

About 40 years ago the young people in Unha-ri in remote mountainous Yangdok County, volunteered to work in a cooperative farm immediately after graduating from secondary school in order to turn their home village into an ideal place good to live in. They formed a youth sub-workteam and worked hard to convert the most sterile land into a high-yielding field, thus increasing maize yield per hectare from one ton to seven tons.
