Marilyn Monroe

Born on the 1st of June, 1926 and died on 5th of August 1962, Marilyn Monroe is a well-known model, actress and singer, best known as one of the biggest sex symbols in the 1950s and 1960s. She has worked in a number of notable movies during the period and received a number of nominations for awards. She also won the Golden Globe Awards and has often been cited as one of the biggest icons of pop and culture and is touted as America’s quintessential sex symbol. She has also been named as the number one in Film’s Sexiest Women of All Time by TV Guide Network in 2009.

Born as Norma Jean Mortenson, Marilyn is believed to have been an illegitimate child as the surname Mortenson was quickly changed to Baker. Mortenson was Mariliyn’s mother’s husband for a short period of time before she married Baker. Marilyn had to spend most of her childhood at foster homes as her mother was mentally unstable and also financially incapable to take care of her.

However, the mother kept demanding that Marilyn be returned to her and even managed to zip her up in a bag and tried to take her away from her foster parents. Later, Marilyn spent some time with her mother, but these were plagued by a number of mental episodes which would haunt Marilyn for the rest of her life. As such, Marilyn developed certain traits of substance abuse, hyper-sexuality and disturbances in sleep patterns and also difficulties in interpersonal relationships. However, she did not let her issues deter her from pursuing a career in modeling.

Even though she faced a lot of struggles and issues, she worked on hard and received a break in the movies when she signed a contract with Columbia Pictures. Soon, she caught the eye of many notable photographers in Hollywood and went on to pose nude and became one of the biggest sex symbols that Hollywood had ever seen. Towards the later part of her career, unfortunately Marilyn faced a lot of problems with illnesses and personal problems. She died from an overdose of barbiturates in 1962. Marilyn died a young and untimely death, but she had already made such a big name for herself that she is well-known even today.
