New Delhi, July 23: After United States President Trump claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had requested to Mediate in Kashmir Issue, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Tuesday informed Parliament that the Premier never requested US President for help in Kashmir Issue. Reacting to the statement, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has termed it as a “surprising reaction” from India

A political controversy broke out after Trump offered to mediate in Kashmir issue, adding that he was requested by PM Narendra Modi. “I was with Prime Minister Modi two weeks ago and we talked about this subject (Kashmir). And he actually said, ‘would you like to be a mediator or arbitrator?’ I said, ‘where?’ (Modi said) ‘Kashmir’,” Trump said during a meet with Khan in Washington.

No such request has been made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US President,” Raveesh Kumar, MEA spokesperson, said in a Tweet. The US State Department also clarified that Kashmir is a “bilateral” issue between India and Pakistan.
