Kabir Singh box office collection Day 29: Shahid Kapoor’s film rock-steady despite The Lion King and Super 30

Now in its fifth week at the box office, Kabir Singh is refusing to slow down. The romantic drama, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani as the lead duo, added Rs 1.03 crore more to its kitty on its fifth Friday. After a 29-day run in cinemas, its total business has reached Rs 267.29 crore, which is absolutely phenomenal.

What’s worth mentioning is the fact that Kabir Singh remained almost unaffected by the new release, Hollywood flick The Lion King. It also barely faced any competition from last week’s Super 30 starring Hrithik Roshan, which clearly suggests that it might see decent growth on this Saturday and Sunday as well.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, in a Saturday tweet, said that the film will “certainly” cross the Rs 275 crore-mark in days to come. His post read, “#KabirSingh continues to collect well… Will certainly breach ₹ 275 cr mark in coming days… [Week 5] Fri 1.03 cr. Total: ₹ 267.29 cr. India biz.”

Kabir Singh, upon its release on June 21, received largely negative reviews from movie critics across the country. The film was particularly bashed for the positive portrayal of the lead character, who, critics believe, was “disturbingly misogynistic” and “violent.” The film’s director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, however, outrightly rejected these claims.

Kabir Singh is almost a scene-by-scene remake of Vanga’s 2017 Telugu film Arjun Reddy, that starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in the lead roles. At the center of the story is a short-tempered, alcoholic surgeon who takes the path of self-destruction after his lover marries someone else.
