TikTok addiction can be extremely dangerous and life-threatening at times. In what could be an unfortunate incident, a 24-year-old woman reportedly committed suicide in Tamil Nadu after being scolded by her husband over her TikTok addiction. According to reports, Anitha, 24, was addicted to TikTok. When Anitha’s TikTok addiction went out of control, her 29-year-old husband Palanivel, who is working in Singapore, yelled at her over the phone and warned her against using the app. Upset over that, Anitha ended her life by drinking pesticide. Anitha is survived by two children, a 4-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son.

As per reports, Anitha also filmed her suicide in a TikTok video and shared it with her husband over WhatsApp before he was rushed to the hospital in Trichy. Anitha failed to respond to her treatment and later died. The video is no longer available as TikTok seems to have taken it down from its platform. Anitha was a frequent TikTok poster. Her profile has over 4,000 followers.

Anitha was introduced to TikTok by a friend of hers and quickly got addicted to the viral video-sharing app. When Anitha’s TikTok addiction started resulting in her “careless” behaviour towards her children, family members asked Palanivel to intervene and make her realise her priorities. Palanivel yelled at Anitha regarding her “carelessness” towards the children and TikTok addiction. Upset over being scolded, Anitha decided to take a drastic step of committing suicide.

Now, this is the extent to which the addiction to apps like TiKTok has reached in the country and this is clearly not the first case of TikTok addiction. Recently, a jaw-dropping TikTok video of a 21-year-old performing dangerous stunts while riding a motorbike with a girl on pillion went viral. Shortly after the video went viral, a special team of Karnataka Police tracked down the rider and put him behind the bars.

In April, TikTok was briefly banned in India over concerns of “pornographic and inappropriate content” being made available through the app. The ban was later lifted after the interim court order failed to sustain and TikTok promised to improve the overall experience.
