Alia Bhatt
Introducing your lead actor with an entry song may be a bit ’90s-ish, but when that actor is Alia Bhatt, who is setting the tone for her arrival as Hindi cinema’s newest sweetheart, that song is a credible cinematic tool to be applied. No wonder Karan Johar went all out with this technique when he launched Bhatt in Student of the Year (SOTY) in 2012. But little did he know then, that the cute teenager — Bhatt was only 19 then — is a powerhouse performer who can straddle the dark, imperfect world of Imtiaz Ali and Meghna Gulzar with as much ease as his utopia of happily ever after.

Bhatt is on our list as she is the perfect embodiment of all things millennial. She is unafraid to break the norms (she decided to take up a non-glam role as early as her second film, Highway), has the ability to laugh at herself (remember the Genius of the Year Award video by All India Bakchod?), is open about her state of mind (she recently spoke of getting anxiety episodes), and her chosen line of work cannot merely define her.

In her close to seven-year career, the doe-eyed actor has an impressive repertoire of films under her belt including 2 States, Udta Punjab, Dear Zindagi, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Raazi, and Gully Boy, among others, and is working her way to the top.
Her acting career aside, Bhatt also possesses keen business acumen. She has a minority stake in a fashion-tech start-up and is in the process of launching an entertainment venture for children. She also runs and  upervises projects dedicated to social causes such as animal welfare and environmental issues.

Deepika Padukone
A performer par excellence, Deepika Padukone has displayed her versatility through her choice of films like Cocktail, Aarakshan, Piku, and Padmaavat. Battling and breaking the silence around depression, Padukone has reaffirmed strength and courage for many. All set to take 2019 by storm with Chapaak, the leggy lass’s performance will bring acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal’s story to life on screen. What’s interesting is that the actor is also co-producing the film.

Katrina Kaif
Initially written off both by audiences and filmmakers due to her poor command over Hindi, Katrina Kaif slowly managed to carve a niche for herself. In 2018, she was seen in Thugs of Hindostan and Zero. The British-born actor will next be seen in Bharat opposite Salman Khan.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
An evergreen beauty, an exquisite actor, and an elegant fashionista, no list that features India’s most beautiful people is complete without Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s name. Last seen in Fanney Khan, it was Rai Bachchan who put India’s glamour industry on the global map by winning the Miss World title in 1994 and becoming the first Indian actor to be a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003. We wish the beauty would grace the big screen more often.

Kareena Kapoor Khan
As much as Taimur Ali Khan may grab eyeballs wherever he goes, the apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree. Ever since she debuted opposite Abhishek Bachchan in JP Dutta’s Refugee, Khan has been setting hearts aflutter. The perfect combination of confidence, beauty, and talent, she sets the screen on fire every time she makes an appearance. After a fun role in Veere Di Wedding last year, the chhoti Begum is all set to tickle your funny bone in Good News this September.

Anushka Sharma
Who would have thought the cute 20-year-old who debuted opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi would not only end up becoming one of India’s highest paid actors, but also turn into a producer to bring forth films with a strong female lead? Sharma, now 31, probably had the highest number of releases in 2018 with Pari, Sanju, Sui Dhaaga, and Zero. A truly multi-faceted personality with an  effervescent charm, Sharma is also an entrepreneur with her own fashion label, Nush.

Taapsee Pannu
We still can’t stop talking about Rumi Bagga in Manmarziyaan, and if you’re one of us, you’ll agree that this was one of Pannu’s best performances The star, who rose to fame with her brilliant act in Pink, has already won 2019 with a bang as Naina Sethi in Badla. The live wire finds a spot on our list for being a powerhouse performer and a mover and shaker in the industry. Wait for August 2019, as Pannu is aiming for the stars with Mission Mangal.

Radhika Apte
If anyone had a thumping 2018, it was Radhika Apte. The charming actor made waves as the village woman in PadMan, while killing it as Kalindi in Lust Stories, only to leave audiences asking for more as Sofie in Andhadhun. Off-screen, she remains a vociferous champion of the #MeToo Movement. An enduring presence that can oscillate between gentle reticence to diabolical and debauched on screen, Apte is easily among the most versatile actors of recent times.

Shraddha Kapoor
Shraddha Kapoor packs quite a punch in her petite frame. The star, noticed for her fine acting chops in her first film Teen Patti, rose to fame with her intense performance in Aashiqui 2. Subsequently, she went on to do meaningful roles in films like HaiderEk Villain, Baaghi, and Stree. This delicate beauty, who has got the best of Punjabi and Maharashtrian genes, is multi-talented—apart from acting, she is also a great dancer (as seen in ABCD 2) and has lent her melodious voice to a few playback numbers like Galliyan in Ek Villain. Kapoor’s most exciting future projects include Saaho with Prabhas and Chhichhore with Sushant Singh Rajput.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas
Priyanka Chopra Jonas wins hearts as easily as a hot knife slides through butter. The diva continues to shine the spotlight on India in spite of making her name in Hollywood, and remains a powerful role model for young women around the world. Not one to be daunted by challenges, Chopra Jonas is all about scaling greater heights with each step she takes. Come October 2019, and we will see the actor back on screen in Bollywood in The Sky is Pink alongside Farhan Akhtar.

Janhvi Kapoor
A chip off the old block, Janhvi Kapoor is a breath of fresh air and a stunner. Just like her mother, Sridevi, Kapoor may come across as demure, but the way she recently hit back at trolls who slammed her for repeating an outfit proved that she may respect her stardom, but she is not going to blindly follow people’s expectations of how a star should present herself. This year, the starlet will be seen in films like Rooh Afza and Kargil Girl.

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja
Any mention of Sonam Kapoor Ahuja invariably leads you to think of the fashionista that she is.  She surprised everyone with her performance in the biographical thriller Neerja in 2016 and had a power-packed 2018 with Veere Di Wedding and Sanju. But the one role that is making waves currently is her eye-opening performance in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. What is endearing about Kapoor Ahuja is her ability to speak her mind, her honesty (remember her blog on a popular website where she bust myths about celebrities’ flawless beauty?) and laughter-filled presence that set her apart from the rest.

Disha Patani
If there was one word to describe Disha Patani, it would be fierce. This fabulously fit star is a kick-boxing pro and her flying kicks are a treat to watch. While the MS Dhoni: An Untold Story and Baaghi 2 actor may be yet to make a big splash in Bollywood, she has legions of fans who swear by her rock-hard abs and perfect physique. Patani, who trains twice a day and swears by heavy weights, is anything but bulky as her Instagram pics prove. The actor will be seen in Salman Khan’s Bharat next.

Sara Ali Khan
It takes more than a pretty face to make a nation fall in love with you, and nobody proves that better than Sara Ali Khan. Brimming with charm and a great sense of humour, that is often directed at herself, her infectious laugh is probably the most endearing thing about her. Her confidence on Karan Johar’s chat show won her a fan following even before her films Kedarnath and Simmba released. Now, we all wait with bated breath for her next film, Love Aaj Kal 2, being directed by Imtiaz Ali, where she stars opposite her crush Kartik Aaryan.

Tabu
With a career spanning several decades now (she started in the early ’90s) one can safely say that Tabu has remained sexy at every age. In fact, many people will agree that the Andhadhun actor has become more beautiful with every passing year. One of the last of the old school league of actors, who let their work do the talking rather than their public relations agencies, Tabu’s list of accomplishments is literally never-ending. The Ruk ruk ruk girl has won two National Awards, six Filmfare Awards, and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2011.

Vaani Kapoor
The focus of the 2013 film Shuddh Desi Romance was firmly on the lead characters Parineeti Chopra and Sushant Singh Rajput. However, the audience came away enamoured by debutante Vaani Kapoor who created a buzz with her powerful performance and good looks. The actor next appeared in Befikre, a breezy romance with Ranveer Singh, where she was visibly leaner, with more chiselled features and a modern look. Kapoor is now training hard to be her fittest for an untitled movie where she will star alongside Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff.

Kangana Ranaut
One of Kangana Ranaut’s greatest gifts is her versatility. Not just in terms of her movie roles, but also in her looks. The young and fiery woman from Himachal Pradesh is one of our greatest fashion icons and has the ability to carry off a trendy airport look just as confidently and glamorously as a traditional sari. The talented actor, who is known to be opinionated, does not mince her words and is known to take on powerful personalities in the industry for their silence on various issues including nepotism and #MeToo. The star is truly comfortable in her skin and has refused to get rid of the scars she got while shooting the battle scenes of her latest, Manikarnika, through plastic surgery.

Jacqueline Fernandez
Frequently dissed by critics for choosing flimsy glamorous roles, Fernandez has nevertheless etched her name firmly in the Bollywood A-list. This effervescent former beauty queen of Sri Lankan-Malay descent is quite the savvy strategist who endorses a number of brands, openly supports charitable and animal welfare organisations, and is friends with a number of female actors. We love her for her fit body, fresh-faced beauty, infectious smile, and fashion-forward sensibility! We’ll see the actor next in Drive opposite Sushant Singh Rajput.

Fatima Sana Shaikh
Very few young actors would dare to do a de-glam role in their first major Bollywood break. Fatima Sana Shaikh took up the challenge, essaying the role of Geeta Phogat in the 2017 ground-breaking film, Dangal, that proved that she has what it takes to be in the A-league. Although Thugs of Hindostan failed to impress, Shaikh once again proved that she is indeed cut out for power-packed roles. Her ethereal looks and easy style statements make her one of the most desirable millennials in the country.

Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi Sinha’s story is one of radical transformation. The beautiful actor, who earned some flak for her weight in her earlier films like Dabangg and Rowdy Rathore, is now one of the fittest actors of her time with a perfectly toned body. The actor, with the most eloquent eyes and distinct Indian features, also happens to be one of the most stylish in the industry.  She has garnered both commercial success and critical praise through her films, and was seen in Kalank last.

Kriti Sanon
The tall and statuesque Kriti Sanon, who first made her mark in the Telugu psychological thriller 1: Nenokkadine, made the audience sit up and take notice in Heropanti, where she was paired opposite Tiger Shroff. It was her performance in Bareilly ki Barfi, however, that proved that the engineer-turned-actor is a talented artiste who can pull off a de-glam role with just as much ease as a glamorous one. Her recent release Luka Chuppi has earned almost 100 crore at the box office. Sanon was next
seen in Abhishek Varman’s multi-starrer Kalank albeit in a special appearance in a song.

The winner of six Filmfare awards and  a recipient of the Padma Shri, she was reportedly charging around Rs 50 lakh in the ’90s, a fee that was usually commanded by male stars.
