Mercedes-Benz posts best-ever H1 sales in 2018
– Mercedes-Benz sold 8061 units in the period of January-June 2018 registering a 12.4 per cent year-on-year growth.
– The sedan and SUV segment grew by 15.2 and 15.9 per cent respectively in H1 2018.
– The carmaker introduced seven products in the last six months.
Mercedes-Benz has registered a 12.4 per cent YoY growth selling 8,061 units in the period of January-June this year compared to 7,171 units in the same period of 2017. The German carmaker posted the highest ever half-yearly sales figure in the country.
The E-Class has been its prime mover of sales in the Indian car market, confirmeds the carmaker. The sedan segment which comprises the CLA, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class and the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class grew by 15.2 per cent in this H1. Meanwhile, the SUV portfolio which includes – GLA, GLC, GLS and AMG-tuned models like GLC 43, Coupe, GLE 43 Coupe, GLS 63 and G 63 – posted a similar growth of 15.9 per cent. The demand in this segment was majorly driven by GLC followed by GLE and GLS.
Commenting on their sales achievement, Roland Folger, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “We attribute this growth momentum to our customer-centric measures coupled with an unmatched product and customer service offensive. Our sales performance is in line with our expectation despite last year’s extraordinary demand in second quarter, owing to the anticipation of GST implementation. With our wide range of New Generation Cars, sedans, SUVs and the performance cars, we are confident to continue the drive, we set for ourselves in the first half.”
In May, Mercedes-Benz India also achieved a production milestone of one lakh units in India. The milestone vehicle was the E-Class rolling out of the German carmaker’s Chakan facility in Pune since the production began there in 1995.
Mercedes-Benz India has already launched seven models in India this year, which includes the flagship S-Class and the two AMG models – E 63 and S 63 AMG. In the next six months, the Three-Pointed Star will launch the E-Class All Terrain, C-Class facelift, and might even bring in the new-gen A-Class and CLS-Class which have already been revealed internationally.
